Review: Pho Du

Pho Du on Urbanspoon

Pho Du is right up the street from my house, and its EASILY one of my favorite joints in the city for a number of reasons. I also think that this place is the reason I wanted to start food blogging. You know when you go to a place, and the food is CONSISTENTLY top notch and the staff always remembers you? Well, that’s Pho Du in a nutshell. I’m always greeted by a friendly face, asking me how work is,how my boyfriend is,what I’ve been up too etc. I could easily recommend this place on service alone.

But lets talk about the food, shall we?

Fresh Salad Rolls.

Fresh Lettuce,Carrots and Mint are wrapped in rice paper  along with Vermicelli,Shrimp and Grilled Chicken and served with a peanut dipping sauce. I am NEVER let down by the fresh and crispness of the salad rolls. The chicken is still warm and gives a nice kick to the cool roll, and the mint lends itself to a very fresh flavour.

Shrimp Spring Rolls

A whole shrimp, wrapped with vermicelli, carrot and I believe pork, deep fried to perfection and served piping hot.  This was my dad’s appetizer, but I manged to nick one. Fried to golden brown, they are crispy and pack a delightful bit of spice. I love the presentation of them too!

Vermicelli Deluxe

This was my dad’s MASSIVE bowl of food, featuring pork spring rolls, three grilled shrimp, grilled chicken, veggies and vermicelli noodles.  He was impressed with the freshness and devoured it all.

Rare + Well Done Pho

I think Alberta is the best place for a beef based soup- the province is renowed for its cattle. And while I am not usually a fan of my beef well done, in this delectable soup its crumbly and blends well with everything else. The broth its self is nothing short of liquid perfection. I’ve heard people complain about soup broths being to oily or greasy, but this one is not. The flavours are all subtle but blend together to make a strong lasting impression on my taste buds. The bean sprouts remain crispy, the noodles are to die for and of course the rare beef slices melt in your mouth. I have nothing but praise.

Overall impression: I love Pho Du. I love EVERYTHING about it and I will be a loyal customer till 1)They close or 2)I move away. I will never stop enjoying the consistently good food or the great service and company
